After 13 years in Italian football David Pizarro has exchanged Serie A for the Premier League by agreeing to join Manchester City FC on loan from AS Roma until the end of the season.
Pizarro, who is an experienced midfielder, has struggled to hold down a first-team place, making just seven league appearances since the arrival of coach Luis Enrique in the summer. The 32-year-old has taken the opportunity to reunite with City coach Roberto Mancini, under whom he won the Serie A title and Coppa Italia with FC Internazionale Milano in 2005/06.
The Chilean international, who has been capped 36 times, first arrived in Italy in 1999 after signing for Udinese Calcio from CD Santiago Wanderers. He enjoyed six seasons with the Friulani before joining Roma in 2006 following a season at Inter. Pizarro made 148 league appearances for the Giallorossi, scoring nine times and helping them lift two further Coppe Italia.
After finishing third in their UEFA Champions League group, Premier League leaders City have moved into the UEFA Europa League and will face FC Porto in the round of 32, travelling to Portugal for the first leg on 16 February before hosting the holders six days later.
