Nigel Pearson: Called on his side to show the consistency needed to push for promotion

Nigel Pearson has called for his players to show consistency to mount a promotion push after Leicester outfoxed Southampton at St Mary's to move within five points of the play-offs.

First-half goals from David Nugent and Matt Mills handed the visitors an easy win over the second-placed Saints, who never got going. The win saw Leicester rise to 13th in the Championship table and Pearson challenged his charges - who last week also beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the FA Cup - to push on.He told Sky Sports HD1: "We needed that sort of result. It was pretty efficient in terms of how we went about it."To come here - they have played a lot of very good football over the season so far - and we could sense there was quite a bit of frustration that things weren't quite going their way tonight.Replicate"Clearly we've got some good players - we've got some very good players - but we need to be more consistent."
Nigel PearsonQuotes of the week"I think during any season you're going to have spells where things don't quite go your way. For us, how we look at it is the last two performances and results are what we need to replicate more often."Clearly we've got some good players - we've got some very good players - but we need to be more consistent."I'm delighted for the players today because they've put so much hard work into it but also at times played very, very well."As regards his side's league form, he said: "We're still playing catch-up. There's an awful long way to go, there's a lot of points to be played for but we can't just talk about it, we've got to go out and do it."I'm sure tonight's result will give encouragement to a lot of other sides for their run-ins as well. We've got to concentrate on us, of course."
