Diego Milito: Scored a double as Inter Milan thrashed Parma
Inter Milan demolished Parma to get 2012 off to a bright start but Lazio missed a chance to move into the top three following a heavy defeat at Siena.
Inter Milan began 2012 with a bang as they thrashed Parma 5-0 in their Serie A clash at the Stadio San Siro.Diego Milito scored twice and Thiago Motta was also on target as Inter laid the foundations for victory with one of their best halves of the season.ImpressiveGiampaolo Pazzini and Marco Faraoni struck after the break to seal an impressive win which sends the Nerazzurri to within three points of the top three ahead of Sunday's remaining fixtures.Milito was the hosts' main threat in the penalty area, but the architect of the performance was Ricardo Alvarez. From the moment he dragged the ball past a defender with the studs of his boot with his first touch he appeared to have a new air of confidence about him, and it did not take long for him to create the opening goal. His perfect cross to the near post was guided home with the outside of his right boot by Milito. In the 18th minute, Milito's shot was blocked and the ball fell out to Motta, whose volley from 20 yards flew past Antonio Mirante to make it 2-0.Inter's third came in the 41st minute with Maicon lifting the ball into the area for Milito to head in unchallenged from eight yards for his sixth goal of the season. There was no let-up from Inter in the second half and Pazzini made it four 10 minutes in when he latched on to Milito's pass, despite a hint of offside, and lifted the ball over the onrushing Mirante.Inter substitute Faraoni sealed the win with a dipping shot from 20 yards out which grazed the underside of the crossbar on its way in.Bad startLazio made a bad start to 2012 with a 4-0 defeat at Siena, who picked up a much-needed win to take their coach Beppe Sannino out of the firing line. The visitors had the chance to move into the top three with a win in the first Serie A fixture of the New Year, but suffered a heavy defeat in which goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri was sent off.Mattia Destro scored the opening goal and earned one of two penalties, which were both converted by Emanuele Calaio, as the home side wrapped up the win within the first 45 minutes.Destro then had the final word 10 minutes from time with his second and Siena's fourth. The 10 men of Lazio could not find any energy to recover in the second half and will now turn their attention to avoiding another painful upset when they face Serie B high-flyers Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.Read more http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7417744/
