After a disappointing start to the campaign which has taken in just two league wins from 16 matches Real Zaragoza have dismissed their coach Javier Aguirre.

The former CA Osasuna and Club Atlético de Madrid tactician took over from José Aurelio Gay in November 2010, following a spell in charge of the Mexican national team. However, Aguirre leaves the club lying four points adrift at the bottom of the Spanish Liga after a run of nine league games without a win and a Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Segunda División outfit AD Alcorcon.

"Real Zaragoza wishes to acknowledge the professionalism and dedication displayed by Javier Aguirre during the time that he has been coaching the team," read a statement on the club's official website. "However, the sporting situation needs an urgent change of direction, so we have come to this agreement."
