Wigan's failed bid for Peter Odemwingie has not hampered West Brom's ongoing discussions to try and tie him down to a new contract.
The 30-year-old Nigerian hitman, who scored 15 goals for Albion in their first season back in the Premier League last term, only has a year left on his current deal with the club having the option of extending that by another 12 months.
Odemwingie is thought to be looking for a deal worth around £55,000-a-week which is beyond Albion's means as they are reluctant to be landed with a huge wage bill in case they end up back in the Championship.
However, while Wigan failed with a £4million bid and Tottenham are also being linked with a swoop for the player, Albion are still confident of reaching an agreement that will suit all parties.
If no deal can be struck then it is thought that West Brom would consider selling Odemwingie, but only as a last resort, while Wigan and any other interested party will be asked to pay around £8million.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has admitted that he is still interested in Odemwingie but insists the ball is firmly in Albion's court.
He said: "I don't know what will happen on that one.
"He's obviously a player we like which is why we made the bid, but the club that owns the player has the right to do what they like - and that happens in football."
