Rodgers hails Swans

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers praised his side's resilience in their 2-0 home win over Stoke.

Goals in either half from Scott Sinclair and Danny Graham gave the newly promoted Welsh club their second win of the season. They had to do their fair share of defending against a determined Stoke side, but successfully managed to keep their fourth clean sheet in as many matches at the Liberty Stadium.ResilienceSpeaking after the game Rodgers revealed he was delighted with the way his side not only passed the ball but also matched Stoke's physical commitment."Today we had to show resilience and the ability to defend as a team and I thought the performance was fantastic," Rodgers told Sky Sports."When you play Stoke there are always questions to be asked and you have to match the physical contest."We have several players under 5ft 8in which shows their mentality and willingness to put their body on the line."I think Tony has done a brilliant job with Stoke, they are a proper side. They get a bit of stick for their style but they play with passion, they pass the ball and are not totally direct. But when the ball comes into the box you have to defend."We put a marker down today because we have shown we can play football and we can compete."GoalsRodgers also lauded the performance of Graham, who grabbed his first goal for the club since his club record move from Watford over the summer, as well as praising the Swans support for getting behind his team."It was brilliant he has worked ever so hard every day since he came here," added Rodgers"He is a player who scores goals and has been very unfortunate in all the games he has played."He is a great reference point for the team with his touch and movement."That is probably the first time he has been able to have a run in on goal and for a player who hasn't scored as of yet, to finish like he did, it was great technique. His performance deserved it."Our supporters are incredible. There was a wonderful atmosphere. There were 20,000 here today but it felt like 40,000 or 50,000."Every game is a sell-out, the passion they show is very much like the Britannia Stadium and it has to be, because when you come up in your first year you have to make your home a fortress."For us it is now four clean sheets at home and we finish now for the international break with a wonderful 2-0 victory."
