Hamburger SV have parted company with coach Michael Oenning following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Oenning, formerly at the 1. FC Nürnberg helm, has overseen five defeats – including a 5-0 reverse at FC Bayern München – in the first six league games of the season. Reserves coach Rodolfo Cardoso has been been put in temporary charge while the club search for his replacement.
"In the past two days, following the 1-0 defeat against Mönchengladbach and after many intense talks, we came to the conclusion that we had to make this decision," said sporting director Frank Arnesen. "Starting today, we will look for a succesor to Michael Oenning. Rodolfo [Cardoso] now has our full support."
Oenning, who was only appointed in March, added: "It is understandable for me that the club is going another way in this situation."
